• Welcome to the Chemistry 14D homepage for the Spring 2011. Here you can find important information about the course. Check back frequently for updates,  announcements, handouts, etc.

3/29/2011–


• For students currently on the 14D waitlist, you will be automatically enrolled in the course this week.



• For students not currently enrolled and not currently on the waitlist,

please send a polite email to Denise Mantonya <dmm@chem.ucla.edu> requesting admission into Chem 14D.  Be sure to include your full name and UID number.  There will only be a few spots available.


*MOST IMPORTANT - READ CAREFULLY*

Denise will not accept your email request until after 12:01 AM on Wednesday, March 30. Any email requests that arrive in Denise’s inbox prior to this time will be put at the end of the request list.  Otherwise, enrollment will be granted in the order requests are received.

• The Other Stuff section of the website has been updated with various links, including a table of common pKa values and a list of common organic solvents. We have also added some fun video links, including the Spring 2010 14D classic ‘We in the Lab’ (featured in class on 4/1/2011).

• MIDTERM 1 is today from 1–1:50 pm. Exam room assignments are as

  follows, based upon the first letter of your last name:


      A–C; Haines A18

      D–M; Haines 39

      N–Z; CS50


• Please arrive on time and bring your ID card!  If you do not know where the room is, we encourage you to arrive early (note: both Haines A18 and Haines 39 can be accessed from the A level of the building, just below the first floor)


• Office hours before the exam:

• To help you prepare for the Final Exam, Neil will hold a synthesis review session on Wednesday, June 1 from 4:00pm–5:40pm in CS76. Make sure to tackle the retrosynthesis worksheet before the review session (see the 5/21 announcement below).

  1. You may pickup your final exam on Monday, 6/20/2011 between 10am and 11am from Evan in room 5235 Molecular Sciences Building. Please enter 5235 from the door in the outdoor hallway.


  1. Course grades have been submitted to the registrar and should be available for your viewing.
