Biographical Sketch
Sang Uk Son received his B.S./M.S. degree in Mechanical/Mechanical Design Engineering from Pusan National University, Korea in 1997/1999, and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Korea Advanced Institute Science and Technology, Korea in 2006. He joined Garrell group since June 2006 as a postdoctoral scholar with fund from Korea Research Foundation and UCLA. He researched topics on Bio-MEMS, X-ray lithography, Microstructure, and Cell counting/manipulation during Ph.D. grogram. He has also experiences on Internet-based remote control of industrial robot, Loadcell design/analysis, and Vibration analysis of side mirror of vehicle during industry and M.S. program. His research interests cover Bio-MEMS, Bio-Sensor, and Digital microfluidics. Sub-nanoliter droplet actuation, Droplet-based cell manipulation, Droplet-based microlens and display are his current research interests.

Biographical Sketch
Debalina Chatterjee received her B.S. degree in Instrumentation Engineering from Jadavpur University, Calcutta, India in 1999, and M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of California Los Angeles, UCLA in 2003. She is currently pursuing her PhD in Biomedical Engineering at UCLA. Debalina’s research involves design and fabrication of microfludic lab on a chip platform for sample preparation and array based analyses. Her dissertation focuses on the following areas: (1) Digital Microfluidics with Nonaqueous Solvents and Solution, and (2) Proteomics with digital microfluidics.

At Dickinson Alex was the recipient of the CRC Freshman Chemistry Achievement Award, William W. Landis Memorial Prize in Mathematics, Polymer Award for Excellence in Organic Chemistry, The Richard M. Sheeley Scholarship in Chemistry, Horace Elton Rogers Chemistry Scholarship, American Chemical Society Outstanding Senior Award, and was inducted into Alpha Lambda Delta, National Honor Society, Pi Mu Epsilon, National Mathematics Honors Society, and Gamma Sigma Epsilon, National Chemistry Honors Society.

Currently:
Began graduate school in 2005 at the University of California, Los Angeles in the Organic Chemistry Ph.D. program.

Research Interests:
Merging the world of droplet-based microfluidics with solid supported organocatalysis to build molecular libraries.

I was born in Saigon, Vietnam. My family and I came to the US when I was six years old. I received my high school diploma from Bassett High School in La Puente, California. I am actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry.
Michael Liao
Major: Chemistry

Michael Liao is an undergraduate student of Chemistry & Biochemistry in UCLA. He recieved his high school diploma from Reseda High School, ranked 4th in the class. His research interests lie in the use of chemistry in next-generation technology.
