LAB DESCRIPTION

Location: 4072 and 4086 Young Hall

List of Equipment: Robin L. Garrell has 1800 ft2 of furnished lab space, equipped with 3 8' fume hoods, overhead ventilation snorkels, and 220- and 440 V AC lines. The lab is fully equipped for organic synthesis, protein isolation and purification, peptide synthesis and purification, vibrational spectroscopy and electrochemistry. P.I.'s laboratory: Peptide synthesizer: Millipore 9050-Plus automatic peptide synthesizer. Raman spectrometer: NiteLite 7 W Ar ion laser, Lexel 479 cw Ti:sapphire laser, Jobin-Yvon HR 640 single monochromator, SPEX liquid-N2-colled CCD detector. FT-IR: BioRad FTS175C FT-IR with narrow band liquid-N2-cooled MCT detector and Harrick grazing angle accessory. HPLC: Wa-ters 625 HPLC system with model 486 tunable single-wavelength absorbance detector. GPC: Waters U6K universal injector, model 501 solvent delivery system, thermostated columns and model 410 differential refractometer. Acoustic sensing: HP 4192 imped-ance analyzer, Phillips 6654C high-resolution frequency counter, Lauda recirculating bath and circuitry designed in-house. Ellipsometer: Rudolph Research Corp. variable angle/multiple wavelength null ellipsometer, with Xe arc lamp, fiber optic output cou-pler, SPEX 270MST monochromator, Hamamatsu R928 PMT. Electrochemistry: PAR 273 potentiostat. Contact angle: First Ten Ånstroms FTS 4000 dynamic contact angle measurement system with 2-camera frame capture for imaging droplets >25 pL. Miscellaneous: TSI VOA3 aerosol generator, 2kV electrophoresis power supply, freeze dryer (Labconco), 4' gravity size exclusion columns, metal evaporator; digital multimeter and oscilloscope.
