Hydrophilic (lipophobic): A molecule or part of a molecule with high polarity, usually characterized by the presence of a significant number of polar bonds and/or hydrogen bond acceptors and/or hydrogen bond donors. From Greek hydro (water) and philia (bonding). Interchangeable with lipophobic, from Greek lipos (fat) and phobos (fearing).
