(TWO IMAGES TAKEN OF THE SALTON SEA, PHOTOS NOT AVAILABLE)
Untitled, 2002 by Barbara Hered. Light Jet prince
on Fuji Crystal Archive paper from color negatives (6cm x 6cm)
shot with a Holga camera. The Salton Sea, near Indio and Thermal
and ringed with desert, is said to be California's largest inland
body of water. Once the heart of a flourishing recreational area,
the sea lost its appeal as a tourist destination due to ecological
deterioration. Plans to restore the Salton Sea are underway, but
meanwhile the shoreline speaks of flooding and abandonment.
These photographic images were taken with
a Holga camera, a plastic medium-format toy camera (120 film).
Holga aficianados look for the vingnetting, blurring and light
leaks - the
"happy accidents that a $15 camera with few controls can
produce.
