Fly, drive or take the train from your home to Winnipeg.

Winnipeg is always the first leg of your journey to Churchill.

At present, traveling to Churchill can be done in two ways. You can fly or take the train.;

Flying to Churchill is the most popular option. Unless your plane from home lands in Winnipeg well before 11:00 a.m. (the approximate time the daily M-F flight leaves for Churchill) you will need to spend an overnight in Winnipeg. This is not a bad thing--Winnipeg is a really nice city--but a layover adds somewhat to the cost of your trip.

You can also take the Via Rail Canada train to Churchill.

The Winnipeg-Churchill train leaves Winnipeg at 10:00 p.m. but you should check in by 9:30. Tickets can be purchased ahead of time from travel agents in the U.S. or elsewhere, or directly from Via Rail Canada. You get the best price if you purchase at least two weeks in advance.

If your plane lands in Winnipeg by the late afternoon, very early evening, you can take a cab straight to the train station. A cab ride from the Winnipeg airport to the train station cost, in July 1996, $11 CDN, excluding tip. Cabs can be found right outside the front door of Winnipeg's cozy airport.

Travel to Churchill by automobile or bus is not an option. The road stops at Thompson, a 12-hour train ride south of Churchill.
