2. Initiation of Grignard Reaction

Add some (~5 mL) of the ETHERAL bromobenzene solution. If the reaction does not initiate after 10 minutes, heat the reaction mixture gently with a warm water bath. You might have to repeat the heating several times. If this does not cause the reaction to initiate, add a crystal of iodine to the mixture and heat the mixture again. If this does not lead to success, consult your teaching assistant and ask her/him for advise.
