CreaTec's LTSTM uses a variation of the Besocke Beetle STM scanner. Due to its rigidity and compactness, the Besocke Beetle has low mechanical noise and little drift. CreaTec's Beetle consists of a plate called the ramp that on its bottom side has three equal-angled ramps. Three tubular piezoelectric transducers have a sapphire ball on its top end and on these balls rests the ramp. In the center of the ramp is a metal cylindrical tube that holds another tubular piezoelectric transducer. The sample is brought underneath the middle of the ramp and the STM tip is mounted to the inner piezoelectric tube by a magnet.
