    In some sections of Chem 12 we need to solve the quadratic equation fairly often, so I recommend getting a calculator that makes this easy. I use the Sharp EL-506W scientific calculator which has a function that allows you to simply enter the a, b & c variables and it gives you the x-values. It is very cheap (about $14.00) and available at many stores (Fry's, etc.).
