welcome pre-professionals

The vast majority of students in my biochemistry classes at UCLA are pre-professional students (pre-med, pre-pharmacy, pre-dental, pre-vet). To help those of you just starting out in this process, I decided to put together a page for you to not only use as a resource, but also contribute to if you have anything helpful you want to share with others.

Please help me keep this page current and let me know if you have any suggestions or if there is anything you think should be on this page. Also, please notify me if there are any broken links on this page (nobody likes those). Send me an email

THANK YOU SO MUCH to all of you who helped me put this page together!

pre-professional clubs

Non traditional pre-med club A club started at UCLA extension for students in the LA area. This club is a must for those not taking the "traditional" route to medical school. Many of you are coming back to school to take pre-med pre-requisites, and this club will help you network and find out information you need to be a successful medical school applicant. Note: this club is always looking for motivated and knowledgeable students who will assume leadership as the current directors transition to medical school. If you are interested in taking on this rewarding challenge, please let me know, or contact Sara or Tanya at NonTradPreMeds@gmail.com.

http://www8.georgetown.edu/departments/physiology/physios/index.htm is one of a few special master's programs where you can obtain a master's by taking classes with medical students.  This is usually for students that need an extra "boost" to apply to medical school due to poor undergraduate performance or whatnot -- the most well known program is at Georgetown.

miscellaneous

www.mommd.com For females with or without kids that are thinking about medical school and wondering how to balance family life, etc:

www.oldpremeds.org Site for older pre-meds.

http://www.mdapplicants.com/ This website is a way for students to take a look at other student's stats and how they compare with their own.  Granted, it's ALL self-reported information and definitely not comprehensive or representative of all accepted medical students, so it should be taken with a grain of salt.. but it's still interesting nonetheless and some students might be interested in taking a look

pre-dental links

www.adea.org The American Dental Education Association website allows you to access information about the application process. The dental application is done online through this website as well.  Just click on the AADSAS link from here.

www.ada.org The ADA website has lots of information on different topics within dentistry.

https://aadsas.adea.org Official site for the AADSAS dental school application.

http://predents.com Statistics for applicants applying and accepted into dental school.

pre-pharmacy links

Need some links!

pre-veterinary links

http://aavmc.org/students_admissions/vet_schools.htm This site lists all the vet schools in the country and has lots of useful info.

http://www.assist.org/web-assist/welcome.html This site tells you what classes will count for requirements at UC Davis from all sorts of Cali schools.

https://www.vmcas.org This is the site for filling out an application.  Applications are due Oct 1 of every year.

A major difference between Vet school and Med school applications is that each school has different pre-req courses, so students should check each individual school's requirement.  I would recommend picking your top school and taking their suggested classes.  You cannot go wrong with 1 yr Bio, 1 yr Gen Chem, 1 yr Ochem, 1 yr Physics -- some require less though.
