The Sliding Filament Theory


This is the widely-accepted theory that describes the sliding of thin filaments of actin along thick filaments of myosin that ultimately generates the force that is manifested as muscle contraction.
Our lab, however, has found evidence against this popular theory!
The figure below shows a myosin head pushing 3 actin monomers down the playground slide.
