Foggy Tundra Morning

Although I ran the original photo through a "drybrush" filter, I feel that this image best captures the dreamlike feel of a foggy morning out on the tundra near a boreal pond. On a cool, breezy day, the insects remain quiet. You may be a few minutes' walk away from your car or any building. You hear a flock of birds before you see them. They arise suddenly out of the woods, calling out in what you imagine to be panicked cries. The hair prickles on the back of your neck as you consider the possibility that their sudden movement and noise might mean that a polar bear is near.
